Five things I Want to Know Before I Buy an ELectric Scooter
An electric scooter is a fun and environmentally friendly way to get around. They are light, compact, easy to use and even quite fast! Electric Scooters are a great middle ground between walking and cycling and add to the joy of cruising. While they’re incredibly fun, there are a few things to know before buying your first electric scooter. Our first tip is to check your local laws to make sure it is legal to drive electric scooters on public roads. If you’re not sure, read on for five things you want to know before investing in an electric scooter.
Not suitable for most urban electric scooters;
If you’re an urban cyclist like me, you’ve no doubt noticed that cities are working to accommodate cyclists by increasing bike lanes, bike lanes, and bike programs. All of these programs are designed to create more opportunities for modern cyclists; But the sad truth is that electric scooter riders still don’t have these options. Few cities welcome these cyclists, as the bike paths are too wide and the sidewalks are very narrow/congested. If you are thinking of buying an electric scooter, make sure you know how to get around, since your city most likely does not have any plans for you.
Before buying an e-scooter, find out about the travel times in your city;
If you live in a big city like New York or Los Angeles, you may have seen several scooters around town with the “Bird” logo on them. Bird is a ride-sharing company that offers electric scooter rentals for around $0.35 per minute. You rent a scooter, take it wherever you want, and drop it off when you’re done. While the cost of renting an e-scooter multiple times can add up, if you only want to rent an e-scooter occasionally, renting can make a lot more fiscal sense than investing in your own personal scooter. Make sure you plan to use your scooter spot before you buy, and do your best to find out what other electric scooter sharing programs are available in your city!
Save on the computer;
Electric scooters are just like you and me: we are nothing without a few accessories! If you’re in the market for electric scooters, investing in a few accessories can make your new ride safer and more enjoyable. If you want your scooter to be safer, I choose a pair of CYCL Winglights 360 that also work as turn signals for your scooter if you’re more in city traffic. If you’re trying to make riding a scooter a more enjoyable experience, I’d invest in LED strips! These attach anywhere on your scooter and can be changed to any color at the touch of a button – perfect for night riding!
Learn to complete your scooter;
Having the right equipment is important when you take your scooter anywhere a lock is needed. Unlike a bike, there’s no easy place to lock a scooter – the wheels are incredibly small, and many electric scooters don’t have a usable frame. When you lock your e-scooter, store it in a safe place with little room for thieves and if possible try to find a lock that can lock as many parts of the moped.
Be careful and drive carefully;
Because electric scooters are relatively new to the road, many other road users may not be looking for it while walking, riding, or riding. Therefore, a careful driver is very important for your safety and the safety of those around you. Make sure you know and follow the local traffic regulations for electric scooters. If you’re on a bike lane, make sure there’s an area around you where cyclists can pass you. If you’re on the sidewalk, consider slowing down a bit in case pedestrians suddenly appear. Electric kickboarding is fun, but it must be done with care for yourself and your loved ones!
